MOVEBR & I-10 Widening Coordination

The MOVEBR and I-10 Project Teams are working together to keep traffic moving during ongoing construction.

There will be several MOVEBR projects moving into the construction phase and some advancing further in the construction phase over the next few months and years. Additionally, the widening of I-10 from the I-110 interchange to east of Acadian Thruway will commence. Both project teams have been working in collaboration over the past 18 months discussing project timelines, emergency response protocols, alternative route improvements, nearby transportation improvement projects and traffic light synchronization. All involved acknowledge the challenges that motorists will face during construction. The teams continue to meet regularly to discuss any developing issues and how best to communicate changes to the traveling motorists.

The I-10 widening project is underway with utility relocations, and construction to the interstate itself resulting in lane reductions – by one lane both east and west bound – is projected to begin in 2025. The City-Parish and MOVEBR Team have identified 15 key alternative corridors to be utilized during the widening construction. These corridors will be given prioritization when it comes to signals that ensure traffic continues to flow.
