Funding from CATS, DOTD and MOVEBR is bringing Bus Rapid Transit to Baton Rouge
The Bus Rapid Transit project, which my administration merged with two MOVEBR projects to achieve greater efficiency, took a big step forward with final acceptance by the Metro Council of a highly competitive $15 million federal grant awarded to Baton Rouge. Additional funding for this project, which was crucial to securing this grant, is provided by CATS, DOTD and the MOVEBR program. I believe partnerships bring progress and by working together, we will deliver the first bus rapid transit system in Louisiana for Baton Rouge. Read more about this project here.
Featured Project: Perkins Road (Pecue – Siegen)
The Perkins Road (Pecue-Siegen) Project will provide additional capacity for vehicular travel, and pedestrian accommodations, and is being designed to fulfill the city-parish's Complete Streets Policy. Read more about this project here.
MOVEBR: Making Transportation and Information Accessible to All
The MOVEBR website is now accessible to people living with disabilities through a blue and white icon located on each page that can modify your computer screen based on individual needs. This can help access information on all MOVEBR projects, including 21 ADA transition projects totaling $10 million to help build a more accessible transportation network in East Baton Rouge Parish. As Construction Ramps Up, MOVEBR Rapid Response Team Will Quickly Address Problems Impacting Businesses
As more MOVEBR projects move into the construction phase, the program management team has implemented a process to quickly address any inconveniences or unintended business disruptions that may occur.
Prior to the start of construction, businesses within MOVEBR project boundaries will receive a dedicated phone number for reporting disruptions which impact their operations. Read more about how the Rapid Response process works.
More Sidewalk Construction Underway
Construction will begin soon on two more sidewalk projects that will connect neighborhoods off Perkins Road and O’Neal Lane with existing roadways, businesses, and services. The successful bidder and recommended contractor for these two projects, which were bid together, is The Luster Group, a minority-owned commercial construction and program management company based in Baton Rouge. 72nd Avenue Sidewalks Complete
Phase 1 of the 72nd Avenue Sidewalks project is complete with new sidewalks on both sides from Scenic Highway to I-110. The contract for construction of Phase 2 is pending and will build sidewalks from I-110 to Plank Road, providing greater access to BREC Scotlandville Parkway, ExxonMobil YMCA, and local churches, schools and businesses.
