29 New Community Enhancement Projects Provide Opportunities for Small Businesses

When voters approved the MOVEBR program, it included $49 million in funds for smaller, Future Community Enhancement (FCE) projects. At the onset of the program, I approved a $5M allocation to the much needed improvements at the LSU lakes. Since then, I have asked our Metro Council members to submit projects in their respective districts for evaluation and consideration for funding. After review by our administration, 29 new projects were authorized to move forward to design in 2023. Project Spotlight: Sherwood Forest Extension

The MOVEBR Program continues to build new roadways as a part of its capacity projects to provide alternative routes and additional connectivity for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. The Sherwood Forest Extension Project consists of constructing a new roadway from Greenwell Springs Road to Joor Road at the Mickens Road Intersection. You can read more about the project here.

MOVEBR & I-10 Widening Coordination

The MOVEBR and I-10 Project Teams are working together to keep traffic moving during ongoing construction. You can read more about the widening of I-10 here.

MOVEBR Program Hosting Monthly Video Conferences with Partner Agencies on State’s I-10 Widening Project

EBR transportation officials recently participated in a briefing on the I-10 widening project with local law enforcement agencies. The MOVEBR program is hosting similar meetings with representatives of other transportation projects to share updates and keep the public informed.

Baton Rouge area residents will soon experience inconvenience linked to the I-10 widening project with construction scheduled to begin this year. While the public has for decades demanded action to relieve regional traffic congestion, citizens are understandably concerned about how this state project will impact local traffic. Late last year, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome asked the MOVEBR communications team to reach out to DOTD and other transportation partners to help get accurate information out to the public in the timeliest manner possible.
