National League of Cities delegation views MOVEBR project sites during city tour |
|
I recently welcomed a delegation from the National League of Cities (NLC) to Baton Rouge as part of the organization’s Centennial Roadshow, visiting 100 cities that are transforming their communities. On a tour highlighting key infrastructure developments within the city, we were able to showcase three MOVEBR projects that will make travel safer and provide more options. ADA Transition Projects are Making Streets More Accessible to All |
|
|
|
With construction complete on six ADA Transition Projects, the MOVEBR program has remediated 524 barriers and improved 66 intersections to make our streets work better for everyone, no matter how you travel. The ADA projects are part of the MOVEBR Community Enhancement projects and include repairs to improve accessibility for anyone with disabilities. Baton Rouge’s Complete Streets Policy is Now Enforceable by Law |
|
|
|
|
Ten years after Baton Rouge developed a “complete streets” policy, the Metro Council unanimously voted to elevate it to an ordinance, enforceable by law, to help make streets safer and reduce pedestrian fatalities.
The term “complete streets” refers to an approach to city planning that requires streets to be designed, operated and maintained to enable safe access for all people who use them, including bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians of all ages and abilities. 1st Quarter Increase in Small Business Participation Reported |
|
|
|
The MOVEBR program continues to expand small business participation in designing and building our transportation projects. As of March 2024, 27.4% of MOVEBR dollars committed are with minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses – an increase over our 2023 totals. This has infused more than $49 million into making our small businesses stronger. In addition, the MOVEBR program has invested $160 million with East Baton Rouge Parish businesses.
