The MOVEBR program has officially kicked off with work starting on the first 20 projects immediately. This single largest infrastructure initiative in the history of our City-Parish will, in time, deliver projects that make our streets safer, less congested and more accessible to everyone. I am pleased to share with you the progress we have made in just a few months in this quarterly report. Through an objective, data-driven process with community input, projects have been prioritized and are moving forward.
Complete Streets
The MOVEBR Program provides an opportunity to incorporate the Complete Streets model into its projects. The City-Parish adopted its Complete Streets Policy in 2014 and has been working with various stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation. A complete streets concept considers the various modes of transportation and structures on a street to ensure it provides enhancements to the surrounding community.

Prioritization, Signalization and Sidewalks Press Conference: Oct. 30, 2019
Mayor Broome and the MOVEBR Program Management Team released the Prioritization List for over 50 projects across East Baton Rouge Parish. A committee of community representatives applied an objective, data-driven process in order to effectively prioritize this first round of projects. Projects involving signalization, sidewalks and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) enhancements are now underway.
MOVEBR Program Kick-Off Event
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome officially kicked off the MOVEBR project on September 23, 2019. She spoke to an overflow crowd about more than 70 projects approved by voters that will build new roads and sidewalks, improve existing corridors and manage traffic signals throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. “This program will address long-overdue congestion issues throughout the City-Parish while making our streets safer and more pedestrian and bicyclist friendly,” she said.
MOVEBR Program Overview
MOVEBR is the largest transportation infrastructure investment in East Baton Rouge history with proceeds from a ½ cent sales tax dedicated solely to a list of projects approved by voters in December 2018. Mayor Broome and her administration moved quickly to select a program management team, and the Metro Council approved an initial bond sale of up to $200 million to kick-start construction on the MOVEBR projects.
