Dear Baton Rouge Residents,
As we move through another busy and productive season for our city and parish, I want to take a moment to share some of the important strides we’ve made to improve residents’ quality of life across Baton Rouge. These efforts, many of which align with the goals of the MOVEBR program, reflect our administration’s deep commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more connected community for all.
Over the past few months, our team has intensified efforts to address blight and illegal dumping in our neighborhoods. I’m proud to report that we’ve received nearly 7,000 tires at the parish landfill so far this year—3,900 of which came in during the second quarter alone. This cleanup work plays a vital role in restoring community pride and protecting public health. You can read the entire message here.

Project Spotlight: Highland Road at Pecue Lane |
A decision has been made on the best alternative for the Highland Road and Pecue Lane intersection, and traffic signals and additional turn lanes will be built to improve safety and traffic operations at this busy location. While these plans are being developed, the City-Parish will install temporary lighting in the next 30-60 days to improve visibility and safety in the interim. You can read more about the Highland Road and Pecue Lane intersection here.

Construction Underway on Hundred Oaks Sidewalks and Drainage Improvements |
Work on the Hundred Oaks Avenue Sidewalks Project continues along with the installation of a new storm drain from Dawson Creek to Goldenrod to improve pedestrian access and drainage in the area. The Hundred Oaks project is building and repairing sidewalks on both sides of the street from Perkins Road to S. Acadian Thruway, giving residents a safer path for recreation, enhancing livability and improving access to commercial areas. The new storm drain will not only improve drainage but also close the open ditch and allow for a continuous sidewalk in that area.
When voters approved the MOVEBR program, it included funds for smaller, future enhancement projects such as sidewalks, bike lanes and landscaping. The Hundred Oaks Sidewalks project was proposed by the former District 7 Metro Council member. You can review the plans here.

MOVEBR Project Lifecycle from Planning to Completion |
Understanding the lifecycle of a road infrastructure project can help inform stakeholders of what to expect during construction. Each project goes through a series of phases with defined milestones, objectives, and approval intervals to reduce risks and delays and ensure the project is ready to be constructed.
The timeline from final design completion through construction completion depends on factors such as how much right of way must be acquired, conflicts with utilities, funding availability and project complexity. You can read an overview of the typical stages a MOVEBR project goes through, from planning to completion here.
