I’m pleased to announce we have now completed nine MOVEBR projects since my administration took office in January, bringing our total of completed projects to 45, with even more groundbreakings and completions coming this fall.

Brighter nights are also in store for our City-Parish as the “Lighting up Baton Rouge” initiative moves forward. More than 400 new LED lights have recently been installed in the Scotlandville area, along with additional upgrades in Downtown Baton Rouge. These improvements will enhance nighttime visibility for both pedestrians and motorists, offering safer, more welcoming streets, particularly as daylight savings time comes to an end in early November.

In addition to the MOVEBR program, we’re investing in safer streets, better drainage, and a stronger East Baton Rouge Parish for everyone—but we can’t do it without you. You can read the entire message here.

Open House held at Glen Oaks High School regarding Mickens Road Widening Project

The MOVEBR Program Management team hosted a public Open House on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Glen Oaks High School from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The event served to return to the community with concepts developed during the design study phase of the project for comment and discussion. The event was well attended with approximately 90 attendees, including Councilmember Darryl Hurst serving East Baton Rouge Parish (EBRP), Metropolitan District 5. MOVEBR Program Installing First New Pedestrian Activated Mid-Block Crossing Signal

The MOVEBR Program continues to bring new technology to its signalization system with the installation of one of the first Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) in East Baton Rouge Parish. This signal uses a pedestrian-activated sequence of yellow and red lights to stop traffic and allow pedestrians or bicyclists to safely cross a road at marked mid-block crosswalks. Project Spotlight: Major Traffic Improvements Coming to St. George

Two contractors have been awarded contracts to begin construction on MOVEBR Capacity projects. Phases of both Jones Creek Road and Mall of Louisiana Boulevard will be under construction by January 2026 with these awards. Both projects are part of a broader initiative to enhance traffic flow in the St. George area. You can read more about construction here.

Ribbon Cutting Held for Hundred Oaks Avenue Sidewalks Project

A ribbon cutting was held for the completion of the Hundred Oaks Avenue Sidewalks Project – the 43rd MOVEBR project completed, and the eighth completed under Mayor-President Sid Edwards. The project enhanced pedestrian safety and improved drainage for residents along Hundred Oaks Avenue between Acadian Thruway and Perkins Road. You can read more about the ribbon cutting here.

BRapid Bus Pads Installed on Nicholson Drive, Work Continues on Corridor

Bus pads for the BRapid bus rapid transit service have been installed on Nicholson Drive with further work on Nicholson and in the downtown area scheduled to begin after the 2025-2026 football season.

On the BRapid corridor, milling and patching work continues on Plank Road with the first section of asphalt to be installed on Plank between Clayton Street and Eric Street this month.

BRapid project work in the downtown area will include bus station construction and some drainage improvements.

Plank Road Segment 2 Project Underway

A new project kicked off construction on Plank Road to the north of the BRapid corridor in August. The Plank Road Segment 2 project improves pedestrian mobility from Dawson Drive through the Airline Highway interchange and continuing north to Ford Street near the new Ideal School.

The Plank Road Segment 2 project will install a 10-foot-wide multi-use path on the east side of Plank and a 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side, with ADA compliant handicap ramps, concrete landing pads at existing CATS bus stop locations, driveway reconstruction within the project bounds, and an upgraded signal with crosswalks at the intersection of 72nd Avenue / Monarch Avenue and Plank Road.
