A Message from the Mayor-President (Q4 2023)

More large capacity projects begin in 2024

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome

MOVEBR will soon start construction on 41 more projects

2024 will be a busy year for the MOVEBR program. In addition to our ongoing community enhancement projects throughout the parish, construction will begin soon on some of our larger capacity projects in design.

We ended 2023 with 19 projects completed, 18 under construction and 92 in design and planning. Looking forward, we will soon start construction on 41 more projects to help get our parish moving.

Next are McHugh Road North – Phase A; Old Hammond Highway, Segments 1 and 2; and three ADA Area Transition Projects – Evangeline/Scenic Highway, East Boulevard and North Boulevard/Main Street. Three more ADA projects will be completed in the first quarter of this year.

Because we prioritized the traffic signal projects, construction was completed well before any lane closures with the I-10 construction project. 470 signals throughout the parish are now connected to a central Advanced Traffic Management Center. This will allow our traffic engineers to adjust signals in real time to keep traffic moving.

We will also advertise soon for contractors for the new Mall of Louisiana Boulevard, the Plank Road Corridor Enhancement Project (Segment 2), and we just broke ground on the extension of Constantin to extend the road from Essen Lane to Bluebonnet Blvd.

You will see significant improvements coming to College Drive and Scenic Highway – two important gateways to our universities.

Construction will soon be complete on the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Bluebonnet Boulevard and on construction of Midway Drive, a new road being constructed between Picardy and Constantin.

With the design of so many projects reaching completion, 2024 is shaping up to be our busiest year yet.
