Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome was recently joined by Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (LA-02), Councilmember Chauna Banks, Mayor Darnell Waites (City of Baker), BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson and the MOVEBR Program Management Team to announce a $13 million Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation for the MOVEBR Thomas Road Project.

The grant was funded with the support of Congressman Carter. This MOVEBR project will provide new capacity along 2.1 miles of Thomas Road, which connects Highway 19 to Plank Road, near BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo.

This project will provide the community with many benefits from slated improvements, which include the addition of a mixed-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists, wider shoulders, street lighting and improved roadway drainage. These improvements will also help with flooding in the area and enhancements to BREC’s Greenwood Park and Zoo.
