A Message from the Mayor-President (Q1 2021)

Baton Rouge Will Provide Louisiana’s First Bus Rapid Transit Service

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome

The Baton Rouge Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, connecting North and South Baton Rouge neighborhoods to jobs, services and medical facilities, has moved to final design and will be managed by the MOVEBR program for greater efficiency.

In its next phase, the BRT project will merge with two MOVEBR projects, corridor improvement projects on Plank Road and Florida Boulevard that include the bus route. I made this decision to achieve greater efficiency in managing these projects, reduce any duplication of work and better position North Baton Rouge for other federal grant pursuits.

Now that we have secured full funding for the BRT project, I am very pleased to announce Baton Rouge will provide Louisiana’s first bus rapid transit service.

The BRT project will now move through design, permitting and construction. To keep the public informed and provide access to up-to-date information, this project has its own website at www.batonrougebrt.com and a dedicated MOVEBR project page for BRT can be accessed at www.movebr.brla.gov/brt.

The BRT website describes the project, its history, and introduces the partners for the project, including CATS, DOTD, Build Baton Rouge, and the MOVEBR Program. A route map and sketches of features special to BRT service are available for review. The many planning studies prepared for the project can also be downloaded from the site. The preliminary project schedule, information about funding, and an events calendar are also available on the website.

As public outreach efforts are scheduled for the Bus Rapid Transit project, notices and information will be provided through the MOVEBR program, so be sure you sign up for updates.
