1st Quarter Increase in Small Business Participation Reported

The MOVEBR program continues to expand small business participation in designing and building our transportation projects. As of March 2024, 27.4% of MOVEBR dollars committed are with minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses – an increase over our 2023 totals. This has infused more than $49 million into making our small businesses stronger. In addition, the MOVEBR program has invested $160 million with East Baton Rouge Parish businesses.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome set a goal of 20% small business participation among these targeted businesses for the MOVEBR program, and the program has delivered. Latest reports show that 90 cents of every dollar spent on the MOVEBR program goes to an East Baton Rouge Parish business.

Working with the administration to make significant changes in the City-Parish procurement process, the MOVEBR program has leveled the playing field for small businesses and continues to work with local businesses to help build capacity.
