ADA Transition Projects are Making Streets More Accessible to All

With construction complete on six ADA Transition Projects, the MOVEBR program has remediated 524 barriers and improved 66 intersections to make our streets work better for everyone, no matter how you travel. The ADA projects are part of the MOVEBR Community Enhancement projects and include repairs to improve accessibility for anyone with disabilities.

Examples of barriers include areas with too steep of a curb ramp or no curb ramp at all; or sidewalks where the cross-slope is too steep, vertical separation is greater than a quarter inch or the width is too narrow.

Intersection improvements have included adding or replacing curb ramps, adding signage or crosswalk striping, adjusting the height or orientation on push-button traffic signals at crosswalks and adding audible pedestrian push-button signals at some intersections.

The completed ADA Transition projects include Florida Street Area, Fuqua Street/Gracie Street Area, Clayton Street Area, Chippewa Street Area, Fairfields Avenue Area and Evangeline Street (West) Area.

The MOVEBR program has a fully accessible website that can be customized using a blue-and-white icon located on each page to display content according to individual needs.
