I recently welcomed a delegation from the National League of Cities (NLC) to Baton Rouge as part of the organization’s Centennial Roadshow, visiting 100 cities that are transforming their communities. On a tour highlighting key infrastructure developments within the city, we were able to showcase three MOVEBR projects that will make travel safer and provide more options.
One significant project highlighted during the tour included the Ardendale Village development; partially funded through a Choice Neighborhood HUD grant, submitted by the East Baton Rouge Housing Authority. This development will be bordered by two future MOVEBR projects: Florida Boulevard Corridor Enhancement, Segment 2 & the Ardenwood/Lobdell Connector. When paired with these projects, this development will provide significant connectivity for residents and overall safety improvements for motorists and pedestrians.
The Ardenwood/Lobdell Connector project will include a new two‐lane subdivision-type street, with bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, green infrastructure concepts (such as stormwater plantings) and an urban tree canopy installation along the entire pedestrian multiuse path. The project also includes new intersection improvements at Ardenwood Drive and Lobdell Boulevard such as sidewalk connections, ADA-compliant curb ramps and a new signalized intersection connecting to the new Ardendale Development at Ardenwood Drive, which will also include crosswalks with pedestrian beacons. The project looks to provide adjacent neighborhoods’ residents in East Fairfield, Smiley Heights and Melrose East access to critical assets, like jobs, education and community centers.
The Florida Boulevard Corridor Enhancement, Segment 2 project, which intersects Ardenwood Drive, will improve mobility for pedestrians and cyclists through intersection, sidewalk and signal improvements. The tour also included the Florida Boulevard portion of the Bus Rapid Transit corridor which is being built by the MOVEBR program in coordination with CATS and the LA DOTD.
These projects highlight MOVEBR’s immense planning to improve transportation modes and safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, while leveraging resources to increase efficiency and manage costs. We look forward to enjoying the catalytic impact on economic growth and development within our local communities as a result of these infrastructure investments.

(WAFB) The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is in the process of installing flashing yellow arrows to street lights at intersections all over the state.
(The Advocate) At their April 11 meeting, Rotarians received an update on the MoveBR project from Fred Raiford, director of Transportation and Drainage for East Baton Rouge Parish.
The MOVEBR program has invited small minority-, woman- and veteran-owned companies to record a brief introductory video message about their companies. The videos are posted in the Small Business Video Library.
Project specific pages have been added to the MOVEBR Project List. The new project specific pages provide project-level updates and an opportunity for the public to submit comments regarding each project. The project specific pages were created to provide the public as much information as possible on each project.
The prioritization of more than 50 MOVEBR projects has been released, along with the locations where traffic signal synchronization and sidewalk construction projects are currently underway.

The MOVEBR Transportation and Infrastructure Improvements Program is the most significant transportation infrastructure investment in East Baton Rouge Parish history. The 1/2 cent sales tax proposition was approved by the voters of East Baton Rouge Parish on December 8, 2018. The tax became effective on April 1, 2019 and will continue for 30 years until March 31, 2049. Proceeds of the tax can only be spent on the approved list of projects.
The funding for MOVEBR comes from the collection of ½ cent sales tax (excluding food and drugs) which is to be collected over a period of 30 years.

City-Parish officials and MOVEBR program managers have completed the process of prioritizing the 70 projects involved in the $1 billion road improvement program. Yes. The MOVEBR program has a Small Business Outreach (SBO) effort designed specifically to work with small businesses who wish to engage in contracting with the program. The SBO team can be reached through the Small Business Contact Form.

The MOVEBR website will be updated with status information on each project, from planning, to design, to construction and completion, and will serve as a main reference point. For notifications of project updates, stakeholders can sign up on the website’s Contact Us page.
The New Capacity and Corridor Enhancement projects are limited to those projects identified in the tax referendum. However, future parish-wide community enhancement projects will be added to the list based on a call for projects by the City-Parish.
