City-Parish officials were joined by District 6 Metro Council Member Cleve Dunn, Jr. to kick off construction on the MOVEBR Goodwood Boulevard Sidewalks and Bike Paths Project on September 30. The project will strengthen safety, access and neighborhood connectivity in the Broadmoor neighborhood.

The groundbreaking marks the start of construction on improvements along Goodwood Boulevard from Airline Highway to Sharp Road. The project is designed to make it safer and easier for residents, students, families and visitors to walk and bike along this key community corridor.

The project includes approximately 1.3 miles of new sidewalks on both sides of Goodwood Boulevard, bike lane restriping, pavement markings, signage upgrades and crosswalk improvements. Sidewalks will generally be five feet wide, with seven-foot sidewalks where they are installed adjacent to the curb.

Broadmoor has long been known as the heart of Baton Rouge, and investments like this help ensure the neighborhood remains safe, connected and accessible, said Fred Raiford, EBR Director of Transportation and Drainage. These improvements support daily life along Goodwood Boulevard by adding sidewalks, restriping bike lanes, improving crosswalk striping and updating signage.

The project also includes new crosswalk striping near Broadmoor Elementary School and Broadmoor High School, reinforcing Goodwood Boulevard’s role as a daily connection point for over 1,500 students and school staff and 2,000 Broadmoor residences.

In addition, the improvements are planned to connect with future sidewalk work at Sharp Road and Cora Drive, including the MOVEBR Sharp Road project from Florida Boulevard to Old Hammond Highway and the Cora Drive Sidewalks project.

Procivil Construction is the contractor for this project and design services were provided by Sustainable Design Solutions. Learn more and sign up to receive updates about the project at movebr.brla.gov/Goodwood.
