Project Spotlight: Midway

If you travel in and around the Baton Rouge Health District, you will notice significant progress on one of three MOVEBR projects in this area. Each of these projects will increase vehicular capacity and provide for pedestrian and bicycle connectivity in an effort to adhere to the City-Parish complete street policy and goals. The Midway (Picardy - Constantin) project is constructing a new two-lane roadway between Picardy Avenue and the soon-to-be-constructed continuation of Constantin Boulevard (formerly Dijon Ave), which is directly behind the Baton Rouge General and Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.

The contractor has installed the pedestrian and bicyclist facilities on both sides of the new Midway roadway and completed the intersection improvements at Picardy Avenue at Summa Avenue. Each intersection will be raised to decrease the speed of traffic and provide for greater pedestrian and bicyclist safety. The contractor is continuing work between Summa Avenue on to Constantin Boulevard throughout the end of 2024. The roadway will also feature enhanced lighting and is anticipated to open for public use in early 2025.
