Signalized Intersection Selected for Highland Road at Pecue Lane

A decision has been made on the best alternative for the Highland Road and Pecue Lane intersection, and traffic signals and additional turn lanes will be built to improve safety and traffic operations at this busy location. While these plans are being developed, the City-Parish will install temporary lighting in the next 30-60 days to improve visibility and safety in the interim.

The MOVEBR program studied both a signalized intersection and a roundabout before recommending the signal alternative. Several crashes have occurred at this intersection and improving safety is the primary goal of this project.

A public meeting and several meetings with property owners and elected officials from the parish and the City of St. George were held earlier this year to solicit input. While there were supporters of each alternative, a significant majority favored the signalized intersection. Other factors favoring this alternative were the signal intersection requires less right-of-way acquisition and has a lower construction cost.

Construction will begin once right-of-way is purchased and utilities are moved.
