A Message From the Mayor-President (Q1 2024)

Six New Capacity Improvement Projects to Begin Construction Activity in 2024

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome

In 2024, citizens will see a significant uptick in major construction activity from the MOVEBR program, with six capacity projects expected to start construction this year. These capacity projects will focus on getting Baton Rouge’s motorists and pedestrians moving safely and efficiently to their destinations.

Numerous enhancement projects were completed in 2023, encompassing much-needed improvements to existing infrastructure, such as sidewalk and crosswalk installation, corridor beautification enhancements and signalization improvements, which were geared toward providing safe, multimodal transit access for all citizens. Capacity projects will focus on increasing traffic flow, building new roadways, extending turning lanes, widening roadways, drainage improvements and providing accommodations for pedestrians and cyclists. These projects have a goal of getting the parish moving and making daily commutes more efficient, especially in areas which have seen significant increases in traffic.

Small businesses are still encouraged to be on the lookout for opportunities to offer services as the MOVEBR program works to “rightsize” or “unbundle” construction packages when possible to ensure the work is completed timely and small business participation is encouraged. Project activities which are often rightsized include, but are not limited to, clearing and grubbing, right-of-way acquisition and debris removal.

Below is a listing of capacity projects that will go to bid or have active construction in 2024. Projects with an asterisk began construction prior to 2024, and construction activity will continue this year:

I invite interested contractors and small businesses to review the project listing and learn more here.
